NAVARRO RIVER WATER TRAIL VOLUNTEERS WANTED

Have you ever wanted to hike or paddle the Navarro? Now is your chance in a very fun way. The Anderson Valley Land Trust has received a technical assistance grant from the National Park Service to study the river for potential year-round or seasonal water trails. Come to the Anderson Valley Grange in Philo (9800 Highway 128) to learn more about how you can help this effort. Volunteers are needed in many ways: hike the river in segments, paddle the river, document fish and wildlife observations, document made-made features, photograph the river at regular intervals, mark locations with a GPS, tabulate surveys, assist with a web page, assist with developing / editing reports.
ANDERSON VALLEY SUSTAINABLE LANDSCAPE DISCOVERIES

A one day Adventure Seminar visiting three uniquely different private landscapes: a small family farm selling fresh organic produce throughout Mendocino County; a backyard garden with chickens, bees, vegetables, and herbs; and an apple farm regionally known for its wide variety of organic apples and cooking classes. And in the center of these discoveries will be a wonderful organic lunch a The Apple Farm in Philo.

TOLL HOUSE/BELL VALLEY FARMS HIKE

We will drive to near the top of the historic Bell Valley Farms located about 5 miles up Highway 253. From there we will take a 1/2 mile moderate hike along ranch roads overlooking Bell Valley, the upper sections of Indian Creek, Lone Tree Ridge, and sections of Anderson Valley. We will stop for a few stories along the way. The hike ends at a ridgetop cabin where we will enjoy some famous AVLT refreshments and more history stories as the sun lowers on the horizon. Attendance will be limited to 40 people. Spaces are filling up fast so please email or call soon.
GALBREATH WILDLANDS PRESERVE SPRING WILDFLOWER WALK

ANDERSON VALLEY SUSTAINABLE LANDSCAPE DISCOVERIES

A one day Adventure Seminar visiting three uniquely different private landscapes. From the Valley’s ridge-tops to the Valley floor, the owners will guide a voyage of discovery into their organic agriculture, landscape management and conservation practices. Lunch will be provided by the Boonville Hotel’s Table 128 from locally grown produce and prepared under the impeccable guidance of Johnny Schmitt.

PARKINSON GULCH WATERFALL HIKE in March, 2010
On Saturday, March 27th, 1:00 - 5:00pm. This mildly strenuous interpretive hike will take us through an orchard, small vineyard, and forest to a beautiful waterfall that cascades into Parkinson Gulch and into the upper reaches of Indian Creek. Chris Bing--a life long birder and participant in the annual Audobon Bird Count--will be joining us so bring your binoculars. The views are spectacular!Number of participants will be limited so sign up early.
WILDFLOWER WALK in April, 2009
On Saturday, April 18th, 2009 at 1:00pm AVLT Board members will walk with Clare Wheeler and Jane Miller to see and learn about the many spring wildflowers on the Bickell Ranch outside of Yorkville. Please call the office at 707.895.3150 for carpooling and other details.

FILIGREEN FARMS RESTORATION PROJECT TOUR in November, 2007
Chris Tebbutt led a tour of the Filigreen Farm stream-bank restoration project on Anderson Creek. He showed the results of his work over the past few years as well as the techniques he has developed for this ongoing very successful project.
MAP AND COMPASS TECHNIQUES in November, 2007
Colin Wilson presented a hands-on workshop for participants to become proficient in compass reading, locating points on a topo map, and reading legal descriptions on a map.
